Junnar is an ancient cave city which is situated in the Aurangabad district. It is a popular place for the Buddhists. Shivneri fort, which is the birth place of Shivaji Maharaj is located close to this city. It is the house of some spectacular Ghats like Darya Ghat,  Nane Ghat, Malshej Ghat.  Tulija Lena and Ganesh Lena are the popular among the 3 groups of caves. These caves were discovered between 2nd Century B.C and 3rd Century A.D.   Out of the 8 Ashtavinayak temples 2 are located in Junnar in Lenyari and Ozar. It is also famous for Khireshwar temple and Kukadeshwar temple. It is also famous for its beautiful hill ranges and dams. Due to its exotic scenic beauty and excellent climate many bollywood movies are shot here.   This place is close to Mumbai and Pune.

PLACES TO VISIT

Tulija Lena Caves:  In this caves, The Chaitya hall is extraordinary and significant. The ceiling is in the form of circular dome. Different and special chaityas are found in the caves.

Manmodi Lena: These are the second group of caves. These caves have archaeological importance. They are reserved for excavation purpose.

Ganesh Lena Caves: This cave is famous than the other two and attracts huge crowd. It is well-known for Chaityas and cells. The chaitya in the cave-6 is very special and attractive and a must-watch for every visitor.

Ozar is a devotional place located in the Nasik district of Maharashtra. It is a famous pilgrimage centre for Hindus and fantastic tourist destination filled with culture, heritage, beautiful scenery and historic temples. 

Vigneshwara temple which was constructed in 1833 is a famous temple dedicated to the Lord of Wisdom, Ganapathi. This temple is one of the eight Ashtavinayak temples. The Deepmala and its dome made from the precious yellow metal make the temple even more special. Many devotees flock the temple during Ganesh Chaturthi. Bhimashankar

This is a beautiful temple of Lord Shiva which is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in India. Lord Shankara after getting angry killed Rakshas Tripurasura. The heat prodeced from their war caused the origin of river Bhima. Hence the name Bhimashankar. This temple was built in the Nagara style of architecture and dates back to the 18th century.  There are influences from the Indo Aryan style of architecture. It is believed that an ancient shrine was erected over a Swayambhu Linga or a Self Emanated Shiva Linga. Thus the Linga is exactly in the centre of the floor of the Garbagriha literally meaning the Sanctum. Intricate carvings on the pillars and the doorframes of the temple tell a story and attract many tourists. Bhimashankar is about 128 km away from Pune. The route to Bhimashankar is via Manchar. One can go to this place and be back to Pune in one day. Bhimashankar is just the place to be for nature lovers, trekkers, jungle lovers and bird watchers.

The Sahyadri Wildlife Sanctuary

The Sahyadri Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in the state of Maharashtra. This Sanctuary is home for the Jumbo size Indian Squirrel and many other animals and birds. The sanctuary is spread over an area of 120 sq km on the Western Ghats in the Sahyadri Ranges. The area receives heavy monsoon rainfall. It is a very popular weekend getaway. 

The valley is an awesome combination of shrubs, magical herbs and plants of different varieties. The Sahyadri Wildlife Sanctuary is situated at a height of about 2100 to 3800 feet.Trekking

The Sahyadri, with their stony mountains and elevations, historic hill fortresses, vast lakes and broad forest region is a dream come true for trekkers. The hill promises outdoor adventure to all lovers of challenging undertaking. The Rains in the Sahyadris is a must watch and the weather during the rainy season aids best for trekking. Hiking also has a special magic on these mountains.
